ALBERT VRANA DEAD   

CHARLOTTE, Tex., Feb, 8, Albert Vrana, 47, died at his home at Hindes early Thursday morning.  He had been living in Atascosa County for 20 years, had been a lifelong member of the Catholic Church.  He was married 23 years and is survived by his widow and eight children.  Vrana lived in Charlotte, where he owned a gin for several years, later trading his property for a gin and ranch at Hindes.

Sims, Anna (Vrana) Barta

Anna Pauline Sims of Marion passed away Saturday, January 6, 2007 at the age of 98. Anna was born July 10 in Campbellton to Louise (Odlozelik) and Vojtech Vrana.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son Steve Barta, sisters Geraldine Kloth and Mary Stanard and brothers Adolph Vrana and Albert Vrana.

She is survived by her daughter Charlene Calhoun of Marion; son Albert Joe Barta of Onalaska; brothers Anton Vrana of Kerrville and Julius Barta and wife Adelaine of Poteet; sister Estelle Heiser and husband Bill of Pearsall; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 11, 2007 from 2-9 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton. Services will be held Friday, January 2007 at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Jourdanton with interment following at St. Matthew’s Cemetery in Jourdanton.

Vrana, Louise (Odlozelik)

San Antonio Express, Thursday, March 25, 1965
PLEASANTON — Funeral services for Mrs. Louise Vrana, 79, of Charlotte will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Hurley Funeral Chapel here, followed by Requiem Mass at 9:15 a.m. at St. Matthew’s Catholic church at Jourdanton.  Burial will be in St. Matthew’s Cemetery.  She died Tuesday in a Jourdanton hospital.

She is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Annie Brice and Mrs. Gerry Kloth of Dilley, Mrs. Mary Slanard of Aberdeen, Miss., and Mrs. Estelle Heiser of Pearsall; four sons, Adolph and Albert Vrana of Charlotte, Julius Vrana of Poteet and Tony Vrana of San Antonio; 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Vrana, Edwin (Edward)

San Antonio Express Friday, August 9, 1935

GIN WORKER DIES

JOURNDANTON, Tex., Aug. 8. — Edwin Vrana, 21, son of Mrs. Albert Vrana of Davis Switch, died Wednesday of injuries received while working at a gin. Vrana’s left arm was caught in the gin’s saws and badly mangled. He was rushed to Pleasanton for medical attention, where his arm was amputated at the elbow. He died from loss of blood.

Odlozelik, Francis (Vrana)

Requiem mass for Mrs. Frances Odlozelik of Jourdanton, who died in a hospital here Saturday, will be recited in St. Mathews Catholic Church in Jourdanton Monday at 9:30 a.m. Mrs. Odlozelik was 74.

Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. W. F. Krause of Jourdanton, and Mrs. Frank Welch of San Antonio, and two brothers, R. Vrana of Charlotte, and A. Vrana of Flatonia.

Benishek, Josephine (Parise)

1916-2010

Josephine Benishek, age 94, of Poteet, Texas passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 in Pleasanton, Texas.  She is survived by her son, Anthony Benisek and wife Crystal of Pleasanton.  She is also survived by her sister, Marguerite Young  of Jourdanton and brother, Jack Parise of Rockport, as well as grandchildren, Robert Benishek, Bill Benishek, Carolyn Daniel, Susan Canupp, Sandra Tondre and Jesus Rodriguez; nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Rose Parise; husband, Anton Benishek, Jr.; daughter, Linda Long and sister, Beatrice Steckland.

Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, 118 West Oaklawn Road, Pleasanton from 2:00PM – 9:00PM on Friday, July 23, 2010.  A rosary will be recited on Friday evening at 7:00PM.  The funeral service will be held at 9:00AM on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Poteet, Texas.  Interment will follow at St. Matthew’s Catholic Cemetery in Jourdanton, Texas.

Sandra Lee Vyvlecka, age 68 of Jourdanton, Texas passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2010, in Jourdanton, Texas.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Vyvlecka of Jourdanton; her daughters, Kelly Ann Culbreath and husband Jack of Jourdanton, Keri Lyn Key and husband David of Jourdanton, Kori Lea Smith and husband Jason of Calliham and her son, Curtis Svoboda and wife Lea of San Antonio.  She is also survived by her brother and sisters, William Frye, Dianne Clegg, Dixie Seber all of Utah, Marilyn Gold of Minnesota; grandchildren, Amber Yow, Taylor Phillips, Kirby Parvin, K. C. Culbreath, Erika Cox, Bailey Culbreath, Spencer Key, Jarrett Culbreath, Chandler Culbreath, Ethan Cox, Cassidy Key, Tucker Smith, Victoria Svoboda, Zachary Svoboda, Zane Svoboda; great grandchildren, Payton Phillips, Wesley Parvin, Kynlea Yow, Carter Parvin, Twister Yow and Preslea Gonzales; extended family, Vicki, Sabra, Steve, Lane, Cary, Kevin, Cyle, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by granddaughter, Kendall Key.

Matocha, Elizabeth “Pet” (Dupnik)

1915-2010

Elizabeth “Pet” Matocha, age 95, of Jourdanton, TX, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2010, in Pleasanton, TX. She is survived by her daughters, Mary Alice Daniels and husband Jim of Pleasanton and Francis Garrett and husband Cliff of San Antonio. Mrs. Matocha is also survived by her grandson, Jimmie Daniel and wife Zita of Austin and great grandson Joshua Daniel, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Annie (Urbanczk) Dupnik and husband Ed Matocha.

Mrs. Matocha married Edward in 1935. They, along with Edward’s brothers, Fred and Gus owned and operated Matocha Bros. General Merchandise in Jourdanton until the time of their retirement in 1963. She was very active in the St. Matthews Catholic Church Alter Society and was a faithful attendee of the church. She took pride in being a homemaker, and loved her flowers and lawn where some of her favorite moments were spent watering, trimming and beautifying.

Vrana, Raymond Dean

1952-2011

Raymond Dean Vrana 59 years of Charlotte, Texas passed from this earth to join our Lord in Heaven on March 31, 2011.  He was born in Eagle Pass, Texas to Adolph and Bessie Vrana on February 7, 1952.

He was raised in Charlotte and baptized into the Catholic faith in Jourdanton, Texas.  He was active in the FFA and graduated from Charlotte High School in 1971.  He was a hard working man who spent more than 40 years of his life working in the oilfields in and around Corpus Christi, Orange Grove, Mathis and Charlotte.  Raymond had several hobbies.  He loved to be on the water fishing for bass.  He won many trophies for his fishing talents.  He also lived for NASCAR racing.  He never missed watching a race on television.  He had a habit of turning off his phone when the race began. Raymond loved fast cars and pickup trucks.  He was avid Dallas Cowboy fan.  Even though he never played the game, he could tell you everything you wanted to know about the team.  He was an excellent cook and loved to B-B-Q with family.  He was a fifty year member of the SPJST Lodge 202.  A great fan of the Vrana Family Reunion, especially the auction, you knew you were in trouble if Raymond was bidding against you.  Memories of $100 dollar bills fill the air.  Many items he bid on and won were usually given to family members because he had such a big giving heart.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brothers Adolph Jr., Eugene and sister Barbara.  He is survived by sisters Martha Ciomperlik, wife of the late Phil Ciomperlik of Jourdanton, Dorothy Tipps and husband Glenn of Graford, Texas and Joyce Stanley and husband Steve of Charlotte.  Brothers, Louis Vrana and wife Betty of Devine, Texas, Leon Vrana and wife Nancy of Colorado Springs, Colorado.  Sisters-in-law, Adeline Vrana wife of the late Adolph Jr. of Seguin, Texas and Mary Jo Vrana and the late Eugene Vrana of Yorktown, Texas.  Raymond was a brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be deeply missed by everyone.
