Chovanec, Velma (Kasparek)

Velma Chovanec, 90 of Port Lavaca and formerly of El Campo, died on October 16, 2012. She was born on July 18, 1922 in El Campo to the late Vinc and Antonia Pavelka Kasparek.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Chovanec, Jr. and daughter JoAnn Chovanec Wisdom. She is survived by her son-in-law James Wisdom of Port Lavaca, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 3 pm on Friday, October 19, 2012 at Holy Cross Memorial Park in El Campo.

Chovanec, Ella Christine (Horak)

Ella Christine (Horak) Chovanec, 94, of La Grange, passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at Care Inn in La Grange.

Ella Chovanec was born in Columbus, Texas on July 24, 1917 the daughter of the late Joe F. and Annie (Janak) Horak. Ella married Fred Chovanec on September 30, 1936 in Ellinger. She retired as a Clerk from Perry Brothers Five and Dime Store after 25 years of service. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Altar Society.

She is survived by one son, Clarence Chovanec and wife, Doris of La Grange; 3 granddaughters: Teresa Carver and husband Matt of Cypress, Brenda Glasgow and husband Scott of Georgetown, Tina Liccioni and husband Erik of La Grange; 6 Great-grandchildren, Keleigh and Kyle Carver of Cypress, Tyler and Madison Glasgow of Georgetown, Lance and Alyssa Liccioni of La Grange and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Fred Chovanec, who passed away on December 26, 1998 and two brothers: Charles and Henry Horak.

Chovanec, Thomas E.

Thomas E. Chovanec, 68, of Fayetteville, passed away on Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Grace Care Center in Katy. He fought a heroic battle against cancer for one year.

Thomas was born in La Grange on July 8, 1942, the son of the late Ludvik and Juliane (Prasifka) Chovanec. He worked in the insurance industry throughout his entire career and was owner of Fayetteville Insurance Company from 1984 to the present time. Thomas was a member of the Fayetteville Lions Club, Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, Fayetteville City Council, and St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery Association and Finance Council.

In his early years he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Thomas also served in the Texas Army National Guard from June 1964 to April 1970.

He is survived by his sisters: Barbara Heinsohn and husband, Ted, of Sugar Land and Joyce Young and husband, Brett, of Pattison; sister-in-law, Judy Chovanec of Fayetteville; one niece; and three nephews.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Charles Chovanec.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010 from 1:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Koenig & Strickland Knesek Chapel in Fayetteville. A Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Services with Military Honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville with Father Stephen Nesrsta officiating. Interment will follow at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund, PO Box 57, Fayetteville, TX 78940 or Silverado Hospice, 2205 Williams Trace Blvd, Suite 101, Sugar Land, TX 77478.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home, 208 W. Pearl Street, La Grange, Texas.
