Teltschick, Frank Edward

Frank Edward Teltschick, 91, of Hallettsville, passed away November 15, 2012. He was born on August 11, 1921 to Gustave “Gus” & Annie Fritsch Teltschick in Port Arthur, Texas. He married Betty Jean Rogers on January 14, 1944. He was a veteran of WWII, member of the V.F.W., and parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Hallettsville.

Frank worked as a store clerk from 1939 to 1941 for $0.15/hour. He was hired on as a laborer at the Texaco Port Arthur refinery in August 1941.

Frank joined the Army Air Corp on February 16, 1943. He attended flight schools in San Antonio, TX, Chickasha, OK, and Tampa, FL. He was shipped overseas to the European Theater of Operations as a pilot of a B-26 bomber, and moved up in rank to Captain, sometimes leading a group of bombers. He received the Distinguished Unit Citation; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 3 bronze service stars for Central Europe, Ardennes-Alsace, and Rhineland campaigns; the Air Medal with five bronze oak leaf clusters; and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He was honorably discharged on November 17, 1945 and continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves. He was promoted to the rank of Major in September 1958 while serving in the Air Force Reserves.

Frank’s first job back to the states was a Yakie Supply, where he worked from January through August of 1946. That August, he was rehired at the Texaco Port Arthur refinery for the wage of $1.95/hour. He worked as a laborer, then as an operator in the alky unit. He retired from Texaco in 1979 as general foreman. Frank and Betty moved to his ancestral homestead near Speaks, Texas, where he enjoyed hunting, farming and ranching.

Frank is survived by: his wife Betty Jean; daughter Carol Jean Teltschick; 2 sons, Jerry Edward Teltschick and David Lee Teltschick; 8 grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.

Frank was preceded in death by; his parents, brother, and sister.

Funeral Service: 10 am, Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Kubena Funeral Home. Visitation: 4 pm, Sunday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Rosary: 5 pm, Sunday, at Kubena Funeral Home. Officiate: Msgr. John Peters. Pallbearers: Jerry Teltschick, David Teltschick, David Meyers, Mark Meyers, Kevin Meyers, and Gilbert Urbish. Honorary Pallbearers: Garland Davis and Walter “Sonny” Rogers. Burial: Speaks Cemetery. Memorials: Helping Hearts Association or Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
