Bezdek, Leona Anna (Tichavsky)


Leona Anna Bezdek, age 85, of Abbott, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 31, 2007 at West Rest Haven in West.

A rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel by Deacon Butch Pruitt. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with Msgr. Frank Miller as celebrant. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott.

Mrs. Bezdek was born February 26, 1921 in West, the daughter of Joe Frank and Agnes Marie (Bartosh) Tichavsky. She was raised in the Chatt area of Hill County and attended Chatt School and Jesse School. On October 20, 1944 she was united in marriage to Jerry J. Bezdek in San Antonio. She was a homemaker and also worked in the dietary department of the West Community Hospital for over 15 years before she retired in 1987. Leona was a very active and faithful member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, where she served on the Ladies Altar Society and the “Quilters For Christ”. She was also a social member of the K.J.Z.T. Society No. 104, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the West V.F.W. Post 4819 Ladies Auxiliary. Leona loved quilting and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Louis Tichavsky; and two sisters, Frances Grones and Rosie Kallus.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 years, Jerry J. Bezdek of Abbott; one son, Michael Bezdek and his wife Jan of Abbott; two daughters, Barbara Bezdek of Chalk Bluff and Linda Rosen and her husband Jay of Houston; one sister, Lillie Adair of West; four grandchildren, Rachel Rosen, Zachary Rosen, Jeff Bezdek, and James Bezdek; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Memorials may be made to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Youth Fund or the K.J.Z.T. Memorial Scholarship Fund.
